Windows PODCAST DOCUMENTARY
“The window is the meeting point between home comforts and what exists outside, in society – the liminal space within rapidly changing social landscapes” – the series’ raison d'être.
From Derick Armah and Ivan d’Avoine, Windows is an original podcast series about the ordinary and extraordinary views from individuals’ home windows, fusing the social documentary format with experimental audio art and oral history. Views from London to Lagos to Hong Kong are documented, and each instalment is intricately sound designed to bring these personal narratives to life.
Inspired their shared upbringings in Camden Town, which has been gentrifying at pace, Windows is an extension of their interests in that specific, complex inter-relationship between person and place – physical, social and emotional geographies.
But simply put, it’s an invitation for deep listening, as the world rushes by.
Also designed as an audio-visual project for archiving stories from changing communities, the series features original photography (both film and digital) and video footage of the lives that Derick and Ivan have been invited into.
It was nominated for the Sound Design category in the 2025 Audio Production Awards.
With cover art by Effie Jordan, the series is powered by Transmission Roundhouse.
