Windrush Untold Stories

An oral history and photography project that honours the legacy of the Windrush generation and their descendants, celebrating their enduring impact on British society – I recorded an abridged life history of Dr Stephen Delsol, a pioneering educationalist and civil rights activist.

From June 2025, life-sized printed portraits were displayed in two exhibitions – in public in Windrush Square, London, and within the UK government’s Home Office headquarters. They were photographed by Amit Lennon and printed by Photofusion, with the recorded oral histories made accessible through QR codes on the prints. In July 2025, the public display was vandalised, necessitating a community effort to fund the reprinting and reinstallation of the portraits.

The project was founded by Ros Griffiths and presented by the Empathy Museum, in collaboration with Friends of Windrush Square, Photofusion, the Black Cultural Archives, and Born or Made.
